Pain

Suffering with Pain?

Acute pain is the body's warning signal that something specific is wrong. It is a normal sensation triggered in the nervous system to alert you to possible injury and the need to take care of yourself.

Persistent or chronic pain, defined as pain lasting three months or more, is quite different though. It may result from chronic inflammation, nerve damage, or a complex problem

involving mind and body, when the nervous system begins to generate pain signals even though no underlying cause is involved.

How NMG can help you deal with pain

We understand how disruptive to your day-to-day existence pain is – beyond the direct physical and mental suffering; it can limit mobility, lower mood, and remove enjoyment from your leisure time. Some causes of chronic pain include the aftermath of physical injury, arthritis, headache & migraine, low back pain, neurogenic pain (pain resulting from damage to the peripheral nerves or to the central nervous system itself), psychogenic pain (pain not due to past disease or injury or any visible sign of damage inside or outside the nervous system), chronic fatigue syndrome, endometriosis, fibromyalgia, inflammatory bowel disease, interstitial cystitis, temporomandibular joint dysfunction, and vulvodynia. It is not known whether these disorders share a common cause.

We offer many therapies that are useful in managing pain and addressing the underlying cause, such as acupuncture, osteopathy, acupressure and tui na, and mindfulness and breathing.

Our Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine Team offer an integrated approach to pain management using acupuncture, body work and herbal medicine.
