Ashley is a psychologist working one day per week in the National Health Service and four days in private practice. He gained his BSc in Psychology in 1978, and since then has trained further in Counselling Psychology, with a particular interest in hypnosis and the treatment of psychosomatic disorders and psychological trauma. In 1993 he was awarded a PhD for his research examining mind/body interactions in relation to ventilation and cardiac, neurological and psychological symptoms. In the same year he was also awarded Chartered status as a Counselling Psychologist by the British Psychological Society, the profession's governing body.
His special interests now include the application of psychological techniques in the understanding and treatment of anxiety, psychosomatic and other stress related disorders, and trauma. As well as working with individuals he also has considerable experience working with organisations, particularly in response to traumatic incidents, such as armed robbery, assault or death in the workplace.
