Ross of New Medicine Group is an Acupuncturist specialising in the treatment of stress related disorders such as insomnia, anxiety, depression, menstrual problems, and musculoskeletal pain.
Integrating traditional Acupuncture with guidance in Mindfulness based meditation techniques, he offers a treatment programme, which is designed to relieve problems caused by stress, and also provide patients with the tools to transform how they deal with stress as it arises. Holding a BSc (Hons) in Acupuncture, and membership of the British Acupuncture Council, Ross has over 10 years experience of mindfulness based meditation practice, incuding retreat periods spent working and meditating with monks at Buddhist monasteries around the world.
Treatment is based on the understanding that the process of stress, and the negative affect it can have on the mind and body, is something we can become aware of and learn to avoid. Acupuncture treatment is used to create a state of relaxation in which both mental and muscular tension and pain can resolve. Often it is not until a patient has experienced this state that they realise how much tension they have accumulated. This is the first step in becoming aware of the way you react to stress and how it can lead to problems with your health.
Weekly treatment will allow you to become increasingly familiar with feelings of mental and physical relaxation which not only improve your overall sense of well being but also mean that you become more aware of the occasions when stress is affecting you in daily life. As you recognise how it feels to be truly relaxed, so you will become sensitive to the processes which create feelings of anxiety and depression, and can learn to manage them more effectively.
This is where the teaching of mindfulness practice comes in. You will be given guidance in mindfulness techniques which will build on your experiences in the treatment room. These can be used during seated meditation, and also in the dynamic context of daily life. By following these simple exercises, you will develop the ability to spontaneously relax, think clearly, and diffuse stressful situations by reacting to them in a positive way.
